Alphabet Party~

Since we recently finished learning about our alphabet.  We had an alphabet party.  I asked that each student wear a green shirt and brown pants and if they didn't have these colors to wear a tree color (yellow, orange, red).  We made our own Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom hats.  We also picked out foam letters and stuck them to our shirts so we looked like the actually coconut tree.  We had so much fun making our costumes.
We also did different alphabet activities through-out the day.  We colored capital letters and matched them with their lowercase letter.

We also played letter musical chairs and had a fun snack!  We had so much fun!

Egg Dying~

For one of our Easter projects we dyed eggs.  Every year I like to do this with the students because I always have a handful of students that have never had the chance to do it at home.  I always loved dying eggs when I was little and the students really enjoy changing the white egg to a fun bright color.  Each student dyed 3 eggs a piece.  I found a recipe for baking the eggs instead of boiling them.  I thought this would be easier than boiling 40 eggs.  I put them in muffin tins at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.  I had 3 break in my first batch in the oven so I took them out a few minutes early when I baked the 2nd batch!

Letter of the Week Z~

We finally finished our last letter of the alphabet. We made Zebras for the letter Z.

Group Reading!

We were lucky enough to have some 4th grade students come down and read to us. They read the students 2 stories they wrote, one about a monster and 1 about a fish.  It's always fun to see the older  students interacting with the kindergartners!

Letter Y Art~

We are getting down to our last couple letters of the alphabet.  We made Yak's for our letter of the week art for Y.

President's Day~

For President's Day we learned about Abraham Lincoln and where he lived growing up.  We even made a log cabin just like Lincoln had.  We used the heads side of a real penny to put in the window.

T Letter of the Week~

For our letter T art we made turtles.  We used small pieces of tissue paper and liquid starch for the shell of the turtle and construction paper for the head, arms and tail.

More Dr. Seuss Activities~

Another activity we did for Dr. Seuss was a writing activity with foam stickers.  Each student picked out if they wanted to do "The Cat in the Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham", or "1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish".  Then they had to write a sentence about the book they chose.  They turned out great and were an alternative to our regular weekly journal writing!

W Letter of the Week~

We made watermelons for letter w.

Dental Health~

February is always a busy month with all the different activities going on.  It was Dental Health month.  This is always a fun thing to teach the kids about.  We did a group activity with giant teeth.  One tooth was a healthy white tooth and another was a yellow discolored tooth.  We picked out different foods that a happy tooth would like and a sad tooth would like.  Each student got to pick a food and put it on the tooth that it would belong with.

V Letter of the Week~

Our letter V art were Volcanoes.  We tore around the edges of our volcano and then we used karo corn syrup for the lava.  I just mixed the corn syrup with food coloring!

Love Monsters~

For our February art we made our very own Love Monsters for Valentine's Day.  I liked this project because each monster was different!

Green Eggs and Ham Writing Activity~

After we tried our very own green eggs and ham we wrote about where we would like to eat them and who we would like to eat them with.  Each student had to pick 2 rhyming words that they wanted to use in their writing.

Green Eggs and Ham~

On Friday, March 1st we made our very own Green Eggs and Ham.  The students were very nervous to eat them because they weren't sure what they actually were.  I showed them the ingredients and told them the only thing different about them was that we added green food coloring!  Almost everyone liked them! :)

Some students just had ham!
