Letter S~

This week we learned all about the letter S!  I thought shark art would be fun and the boys especially liked making them.  We used a white paper plate and folded it in half.  Then we cut out triangle for sharp teeth!

Getting Ready for our 100th Day!~

My students are so excited for our 100th day tomorrow! I have a lot of fun things planned.  We are going to dress up like we are 100 years old, we are going to make 100 day Trail Mix and we are going to have a 100 Hershey's Kiss Candies find.  I'm going to hide 100 Hershey kisses and let my students find them.  The only hard part is that they have to work together and line them up so that they are in order from 1-100.  I used garage sale tags and made an AB pattern so it was easier for them to see the numbers and put them in order.
I spent a little extra time decorating.
Yay for the 100th Day!

Letter of the Week R~

All about the letter R!  We made our very own robots.  I let the students cut out their own pieces so that each robot looked unique.  I think they turned out awesome!

Snowy Snowman~

Since it has been so cold out lately (in the - negatives) we just had to make our own snowmen to hang in the hallway.

Snowy Centers!~

With a lot of inside recess last week because of cold temps I thought it was appropriate to have all kinds of snowy centers!  I made snow-doh!  Sparkly white play-doh that looks like snow!

Sparkly Snow Playdough

Ingredients:
1 cup salt
2 cups flour
2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
2 cups water
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
one small container sparkly white glitter

Directions:
In medium saucepan, and with burner OFF, combine dry ingredients and stir.
Add liquid ingredients and stir again.
With burner on LOW, stir until the mixture is VERY thick, about two minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to cool a bit.
Add glitter and then knead dough until smooth.
Store in ziploc bag or plastic dish with lid.

I let the students use our play-doh cutters and I set out buttons in case they wanted to make their own snowman.

Milk Jug Igloo~

Here is the start to our milk jug igloo.  We have already collected
74 milk jugs.  We watched a video of an eskimo making a real igloo in Alaska on youtube.  The students were very excited to see how they make a real one and why they  make them.

How many more milk jugs will we need?

Letter Q~

This week our focus is the letter Q.  We decided to make a quilt and hang it in the hallway.  We made a snowy neighborhood quilt.  Each student got to choose what bright colors they wanted to use for their part of the quilt.  We used q-tips and white paint to make the snow.

~You Know Your a Kindergarten Teacher When...

LOVE THIS! SO TRUE!

*You come home with some sort of marker or paint on your hands and clothes every night.
*You get bummed when it rains because you can't go outside for recess and let the kids get their wiggle out!
*You own more children books than you do your own personal books to read at home.
*You get excited when you get a gift card to a book store.
*3 words:  Target. Dollar. Section.
*2 more words: Dollar. Tree.
*You buy the Super hero and colored band-aids b/c they make the booboos feel better!
*You have to repeat yourself 10480302938 times a day...
*You have to remind your students to close the door when they are using the bathroom.
*You have to remind your students to pull up their pants BEFORE coming out of the bathroom.
*Your know the meaning of Spongebob Square pants
*You have mastered the art of walking backwards in the hallway.
*You know that Criss-cross applesauce is the new way of sitting "Indian Style"
*You would have the magical powers to fix "listening ears" when they seem to be broken
*You have no shame when it comes to dancing and signing to jams like "Tooty-ta" and other fun songs
*You receive at least 5 hugs per child and several "I love you's" throughout the day!  Even though I tell them they only get 1 hug a day! :)
*You know that they are the coolest human alive when the words "It's time for recess!" comes out of your mouth.
*You know several versions of the clean up song.
*You have to teach your students about good tattles and bad tattles.
*You are referred to the "best teacher ever!!!"  every time the kids get to do something they WANT  to do. (Even though for the most, you're their only teacher they have ever had!)
*You smile when you get called "mom" because it's the biggest compliment you could ever receive :)
*You can never have enough crayons and glue sticks.
*You know what "just a dab will do" means...
*You definition of a "whisper voice" is clearly not the same as your student's

Letter P Penguin Art~

We have been learning all about penguins, why not make penguin art!  My students kept thinking the penguins were wearing ear phones, ear muffs must have been from my era as a kid. :)

Letter O~

O is for Ostrich.  We had a fun afternoon making our ostrich's.  We watched a video that showed people racing on ostrich's and a video of them running in the wild.  The kids loved this.  Then we made our very own to hang on our alphabet wall.

Organization!~

I'm slowly becoming more organized.  I finally finished my teacher toolbox.  I have so many materials in different spots in my classroom so I thought this would be a great addition to be more organized.  Below are the materials I used to make my toolbox.

I found a toolbox in the tools section at Lowes.  I chose one with bigger drawers so that they would fit more items.

The finished project!
